H.3090 is a joint resolution calling for a referendum of voters in the election of 2018 to raise members’ salaries from $10,400 to $42,830. Legislators each receive mileage compensation, free office mailing, in-district payments, per diem, and, arguably the most profitable benefit of all, their pensions. This increases their salary far above $10,400.

Besides the plethora of benefits members receive, the General Assembly is constructed so as to make its occupants citizen-legislators. The benefit of the job should not be the monetary compensation of a full time occupation, but the appeal of working for the betterment of the state and its citizens.
