H.4466 would make it illegal, with limited exceptions, for a business to consider an applicant’s credit history or credit report when hiring. An applicant’s’ credit history could convey important information regarding a candidates decision making, and responsibility.

Beyond the specific value of a credit report, a private employer should be able to consider whatever criteria they so choose when determining who to make part of their private enterprise. It’s their business and no third party is entitled to participate in it.
