In part 1 of our interview with Richard Eckstrom the South Carolina comptroller talks about the long-term impact of the federal stimulus program on the state. With no real, sustainable job growth in the private sector, and a looming tax bill for taxpayers, the only real winners, he says, are government workers. “If you’re a state employee it’s a pretty good thing,” said Eckstrom, “because a lot of the money went to state agencies that are really able to really operate at pretty robust levels.”
